In my previous post, I have mentioned how I was at Plitvice Lakes in 1987 and did not make it in. As my mom reassured me, it was raining back then. Quite heavily apparently. And today I learned that the lakes are not nice in the rain, or so they say. We were “promised” a thunderstorm, but that only came when we were leaving.
I remember back in 1987 when it was raining heavily with us looking for a shelter for the night indeed. A creepy story involving a small house somewhere in the middle of nowhere, a lot of thunder and rain, and old man coming out of thin air, knocking at the car window, and a too-large amount of religious insignia at the walls of an otherwise also quite awkward place. Anyhow, other details evade me so many years later, but we did not stay and lived to see another day.
Now there is not much to say about Plitvice. There are lakes, there are waterfalls, and otherwise, the pictures should give you an idea, why this is one of the busiest places in Croatia, and why therefore we got up at 6 in the morning to beat the crowds, which admittedly, we did pretty well at.
I am a happy traveler today. Plus, I had the pleasure to do this with Giu, Melanie, and Joshua. Very nice fellow travelers, as you do not always meet them. Easy going and humorous. My favorite combination of traits.
Thanks guys, in case you read this.
