After a long and exhausting week for many of you who are at home, working, grafting, toiling away, I finally enter the weekend. Getting away from Split, which is like another Disneyland for tourists, I am in Šibenik. Šibenik is the oldest settlement at the coast in Croatia and less frequented than one would think after seeing split.
Presumably, most people come to Šibenik for a day trip, if at all. It certainly is rather calm in comparison and one can lay back from the hustle and bustle of the main tourist spots for a while. Mind you though, the season is winding down, and I am certain the picture could be a different one in the midst of summer!
So, I am also winding down, having a drink with people at the hostel, enjoying the breeze by the sea-side, with a beer in hand. Blinking at the sun as people are strolling by. Sitting in the shade of an old building looking at the jugglers and jokers that roam the streets for the entertainment of the weekenders. I am dawdling around the stands of the flea market and themhandicraft stands that have been erected for the weekend. OOffering hom emade honey,, meat products, bread, incents, herbs, vinegars, art, basically anything you can think of.
I am seeing a wedding in full splendor that makes people cheer, rejoice, and sing local ballads. Little kids running around, experiencing one of the first summers they will probably remember. Fancy yachts sail into the harbor to moor at the quays. Young families are ice cream eating with their kids and the kid’s grandparents. People at a stand are laughing uncontrollably while cheering with a light and sweet Croatian white wine. Joyful scenes of people forgetting the strenuous demands of life for some hours.
Enjoying life. Until Monday arrives, hard, and merciless. 😉
